Message from The Captain: Bunker Care

Published on 30th January 2026 in Education, Guests News, Latest News, Public Latest News

One of the most common complaints from Members, is unraked bunkers & the position of the bunker rake.

Below, Blakey gives us a simple explanation of what we should be doing after playing out of a bunker at Spring Valley.  Importantly, this has been signed off by the Course team as the correct way to do it, which will ensure that there is plenty of sand at the base of the bunker, as opposed to up the faces.

We have previously had regular communication through our website and newsletters on course care and etiquette, and the feedback was that members were aware of expectations.

It is also important to remember that rakes are to be –

  • left outside of the bunker
  • close to the bunker entry point
  • parallel with the line of play

It is also worth a refresher on our options for relief from the dam on the 12th hole – CLICK HERE for a refresher video.
