Your ball position has a huge impact on how well you strike the ball and it’s one of the easiest things to fix.
- With a 7 iron: Play the ball just slightly forward of centre. This helps you hit down on the ball, promoting a nice interaction with the turf.
- With a driver: Position the ball off your front heel. This encourages you to hit up on the ball, which leads to higher launch and more distance.
- A quick checkpoint: if you’re hitting thin or inconsistent shots, your ball position is often the first thing to check. It is harder to hit the turf if the ball position is too far forward. This is why we play our woods from a similar position so that the sole of the club can sweep across the ground. Not dig in like it would on a more centered ball position.
Simple rule:
- Shorter clubs: more centred
- Longer clubs: more forward
