Portsea Challenge – Jill Simpson Trophy

Published on 22nd October 2025 in Guests News, Latest News, Public Latest News

On Monday, 20th October, the Spring Valley Women headed to Portsea to contest the annual Portsea Challenge, a competition that has been played for many years between the two clubs.

Following the passing of Jill Simpson, a cherished member of both Spring Valley and Portsea, Margaret Willcox, with the agreement of the Portsea Committee, established the Jill Simpson Trophy in her honour. This was the trophy we were eager to retain after our 2024 victory at Spring Valley.

However, home-ground advantage played its part, and Portsea claimed the trophy this year. All four of their pairs scored over 40 Stableford points, setting a high standard on a cool but dry day. Despite giving our best, we fell just short—but our resolve is strong, and we vow to reclaim the trophy next year.

Sincere thanks to all Spring Valley players for their efforts, and our gratitude to Portsea for their warm hospitality. We eagerly look forward to the return match next year.
