STROKE AND DISTANCE LOCAL RULE

  • BALL LOST OR OUT OF BOUNDS

The Club’s Match Committee has decided to adopt a new local rule which will provide an additional convenient option for players. It will apply from 1st June, 2019.  In some circumstances, we hope that the rule will also speed up play.

In summary, where a player has lost a ball or hit it out of bounds, he may drop a ball in a relief area for a penalty of two strokes. The player does not need to go back to where he played the last stroke. Players will need to review the full explanation of the rule to understand how to take relief. The detail is available on the noticeboard, at the GSC counter and on the website.

The short form of the local rule will appear on our new scorecards, but will not be available in special or major competitions. The text of local rule 9. is:

  1. Stroke and Distance: When a player’s ball has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds the player may proceed under the Stroke and Distance Local Rule for a penalty of two strokes, rather than proceeding under stroke and distance. This Local Rule is not available if a provisional ball is in play. See the clubs notice board and website for full details of the Local Rule.

Note: The Stroke and Distance Local Rule will not be available in Major and Special Events. Refer to event conditions displayed on the club notice board and website for details.
