We’re thrilled to share the highlights from the exciting Mollie Thiele final, held on Thursday, 28th August, between Rhea Martin and Marie Goddard.

This handicap match play saw Marie giving Rhea six shots, setting the stage for a tightly contested game. Both players displayed remarkable composure and skill. Rhea’s driving was long and straight, while Marie matched her power with precision and showcased exceptional putting throughout.

Adding to the drama were their caddies, Julie Turpin for Rhea and Christine McMahon for Marie, whose calm guidance and strategic insight helped both players navigate the course.

The front nine was a back-and-forth battle, with Marie holding a 1-up lead at the turn, aided by a few bunker challenges for Rhea. But the back nine saw momentum swing, as Rhea claimed three of the next four holes, including a superb 3 on 12B, to go 2-up.

Marie fought back, taking the 13th after Rhea ran into trouble, only for Rhea to respond with an outstanding tee shot on the 14th to regain the lead. A brilliant birdie from off the green on 16th squared the match, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion.

On the 18th, Marie held her nerve, sinking a challenging 3-metre downhill putt for par to secure a 1-up victory after 18 thrilling holes.

Congratulations to Marie Goddard on a well-deserved win, and to both players and their caddies, for delivering a match that perfectly showcased the skill, spirit, and sportsmanship of our Club.
