The AFL Grand Final has been run and won. Congratulations to all the Brisbane Lions fans who are celebrating this year’s triumph.

Closer to home, Spring Valley members turned out in style for our own Footy Finals festivities.

Men’s Footy Finals Day – Wednesday 24th September

Last Wednesday, 32 members and guests gathered for our traditional Men’s Footy Finals Day dinner and golf event, complete with bistro meals, plenty of laughs, and the presentation of the John Philp Medal.

This year’s medal was won by Melbourne supporter Chris Fischer with a fine score of 40 stableford points. Chris also played a key role in the winning Melbourne team, who finished with an average of 35.5 points. His teammates were Martin Pearse (35 pts), Peter Scurrah (32 pts) and Rob Jackman (35 pts).

  • 2nd place: Richmond – 33.5 pts

  • 3rd place: Carlton – 32.5 pts

The Best Dressed Award went to Jay Fokchak, who turned heads in flamboyant Hawthorn colours.

Adding to the entertainment was the revival of the “John Connell Famous Faces – AFL Edition” competition. While no team guessed all the faces correctly, one “experienced” group managed to see the answer sheet, we’ll let you draw your own conclusions!

A great night was had by all, and we look forward to the 2026 edition.

Women’s Footy Finals Day – Thursday 25th September

  • Winners: Terri Farrell, Kate McGuckin, Pam Doran & Kathy Roberts – 91 points

  • Runners-up: Wendy Van Bakel, Julie Turpin, Shirley Munro & Carol Angland

A special mention to Shirley Munro, who scored a Hole-in-One on the 3rd hole – sparking champagne celebrations all round!
