Round 3 saw our team head to Woodlands Golf Club to take on a strong, top-of-the-table Southern Golf Club side. With the weather finally on our side, it was a great day for golf — and for Spring Valley.

Leading the team out, Dave Potts set the tone early. Square at the turn, he finished strongly for a 2&1 win. Following his example, Peter Light also found his rhythm on the back nine to claim another 2&1 victory, while Mal Sosbey made it three in a row with his own 2&1 win.

Breaking the trend, Mark Templeton played another solid match, pushing his opponent all the way to the 18th, but narrowly went down 1 down.

Michael Fromberg continued his impressive form, pulling away after a tight start to post our biggest win of the day, 4&3.

From the sidelines, Brett Shemmell (currently standing for Board election — and getting my vote!) turned his match around in spectacular fashion. After finding himself 3 down after 4 holes and 4 down after 8, Brett remembered how to swing the club and stormed home, winning 7 of the next 9 holes for a 2&1 victory.

With Scott Thomson supporting from the sidelines this week, David Halligan once again led from the front. Despite playing some outstanding golf, he met a very strong opponent and went down 4&3.

All up, it was a terrific 5–2 win in a hard-fought and even contest.

Next week, we travel to Settlers Run to take on last year’s champions, Keysborough. They’ll be favourites, but as we’ve shown, you just never know!
