Golf Lives Here

Our Membership and Promotions Committee has been hard at work crafting a powerful new Positioning Statement that we believe perfectly encapsulates the essence of our club: "Golf Lives Here."

This statement was carefully formulated from a culmination of ideas, representing the heart and soul of what Spring Valley Golf Club stands for:

Golf - The Total Golf Offer & Experience: At Spring Valley, golf is more than just a game; it's a complete experience encompassing the beauty of our course, the sense of community, the camaraderie on and off the fairways, and the passion for the sport that unites us all.

Lives - Activity, Growth, Essence: The word "Lives" embodies everything that makes our club vibrant and dynamic. It symbolizes activity, growth, and energy, illustrating that Spring Valley Golf Club is a place where life and golf thrive in harmony.

Here - Within Reach, An Invitation: The word "Here" carries a warm invitation, conveying that our club is accessible, welcoming, and ready to embrace all who share our love for the game of golf.

The new positioning statement emphasises a Club where golf is alive and well.

To amplify the impact of this new positioning statement and increase brand awareness, we have recently launched a Social Media Campaign. Over the next three months, we will be sharing engaging content that showcases the vibrancy of our club and the genuine camaraderie among our members.

Here's how you can lend your support and be a part of our Social Media Campaign:

1. Like, Share, and Comment: Whenever you see our posts on social media platforms, be sure to hit that "like" button, share the content with your networks, and leave thoughtful comments. Your engagement will help spread the word about Spring Valley Golf Club and attract like-minded individuals to join our community.

2. Use Hashtags and Mentions: Include the hashtag #golfliveshere and tag us when you post about your experiences at Spring Valley Golf Club. This will help potential members discover our club and join in on the excitement.

Together, we can make "Golf Lives Here" not just a statement but a rallying cry that celebrates the spirit of Spring Valley Golf Club. Let's share the joy of our club with the world and welcome new members to experience the magic that sets us apart.

Power Outlet Timer Policy Implementation

As part of our commitment to the safety and security of our members, we wish to inform you about the implementation of a new policy regarding the power outlets in our Club Storage Room.

Effective immediately, a timer has been installed on all power outlets in the Club Storage Room to enhance electrical safety and optimize energy consumption. Chargers plugged into these outlets will be isolated from power from around 6:30pm till 6:30am every day.

The purpose of this is twofold:

1. Safety: By temporarily disconnecting the power supply to chargers during non-operational hours, we mitigate the risk of potential electrical hazards, such as short circuits, overheating, or other electrical malfunctions.

2. Energy Conservation: By implementing this policy, we contribute to energy conservation efforts by limiting unnecessary power consumption during non-essential hours.

Further details have been emailed to all members who utilise our storage facilities and an amended policy can be found via the link below.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement this policy. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tim Angwin, Chris Poulton or Gordon Stewart.

Dress Code Update

Spring Valley is a warm and welcoming club that prides itself on being a leader of the industry. As such, the Club enforces a dress code that is aimed at maintaining the traditions of golf and club life.  The principle is that clothes must be neat and tidy and of a type normally expected by leading private golf clubs.

Golf fashion is evolving in both the professional and private club environments.  As such, the Board has approved two changes to the dress code, namely allowing men to wear black ankle height sport socks with black golf shoes, and allowing members to wear hoodies provided they are manufactured by a recognised golf brand and have only a small manufacturer or club logo.  The hood is not to be worn over the head in the clubhouse.

The full detail on the SVGC dress code is available via the link below.

It is the Member's responsibility to ensure they and their guests comply with these regulations. If Members are concerned about a compliance issue, they should highlight their concerns with the Golf Service Centre staff.

Pace of Play Trial - Back Nine Teeing Off From The 11th Hole.

The Match Committee is continuously looking for ways to help improve the pace of play for all members on the course. On Saturday, July 29th; Sunday, July 30th; Saturday, August 5th; and Sunday, August 6th, the Match Committee will be implementing a trial of using the 11th Tee as the starting hole for the back nine.

One of the common issues with starting on a par 3 (10th Hole), is that the hole only allows for one group to be on the hole at any one time, often creating a backlog of players and causing tee times to run behind schedule. The idea behind the trial of using the 11th Hole as the start hole for the back nine, is to allow for two groups to be on the hole at any one time, providing better flow and reducing delays, as players are coming off the 9th Hole to finish on the 10th Hole.

We understand that there are some logistical issues with starting on the 11th Tee and finishing on the 10th Green. To help implement the trial smoothly, we have created a map outlining where players should move around the 10th Green and 11th Tee.

On the days of the trial, we will also have a starter directing players, as well as ropes and cones to assist in guiding the flow. The timesheets for the trial rounds will be adjusted to reflect back nine players only playing 8 holes before making the crossover, and front nine players playing 10 holes before they make the crossover.

Round time data collected from this trial will also be compared against existing round time data, to determine the feasibility of this tee structure moving forward.

Women's President's Trophy

Bright and early on a sunny, frosty morning saw June Bevan and Pat Ong tee off in the President's Trophy final.  Their referee (and score keeper) for the match was Sue Eggleshaw.

The match started with June being quick off the mark to be 2 up after the 3rd hole.  But 3 squared holes and a couple of wins from Pat saw them at the turn being all square.

With a see-saw of ups and downs on the second nine, they finished the 18th square.  So the players headed off down the 19th hole - well, the first hole again.

Playing steadily and determined not to need to go to a 20th hole, June finished stronger on that hole than Pat and won the match.

Both players played very steadily and neither got into any real trouble, but on one hole (the 10th) the bunkers let Pat down and on another putting let June down. Both putted surely most of the day.

It was a really good match, enjoyed by both players and the referee (well the referee believes so), played on the course in great condition with the sun shining.

Well done Pat and June, it was a match well-played. Congratulations to June, the winner on the 19th.

Spring Valley Cup Final

Saturday offered a beautiful day for the final of the Spring Valley Cup to be run, and the match that followed didn't disappoint either.

Rob Wrightson & Scott Leggett, along with Philip Elliot & Otto Meile, were fully prepared for a challenging battle right from the moment they stepped up to the first tee shot. Blows were traded all throughout the front nine and through the turn the match still hung in the balance. An advantage came at the right time for Rob & Scott and with holes running out they were able to hold on and secure a 2 and 1 victory. A close contest in what has been a thrilling edition of the Spring Valley Cup. Rob & Scott will now have they names etched into the cup, with its history dating back to 1952.

A massive congratulations to both pairings who I'm sure wont be seeking any help from the golf service centre in finding their partners next year!

Congratulations to Geoff Cadwallader

A direct quote from the man of the moment, “A golf ball hasn’t been struck better since Tiger's bunker shot in the 4th round, of the 2000 RBC Canadian Open.” I guess only his playing partners Frank Tidy, Glenn McCluskey and Rainer Runge can tell us other wise!

All jokes aside, a huge congratulations to Geoff Cadwallader who hit a beautiful 5-Hybrid on the 3rd hole during Saturday's Competition to pave his way to a lovely 37 points.

The 3rd hole seems to be the highest producer of Hole-In-Ones here at Spring Valley, may this be a challenge to members to break the trend and find the bottom of the cup on another hole.
