#Do It For Jarrod

When #DoingItForJarrod began back in 2019, professional golfers worldwide got on board to show their support. Those players had all known Jarrod and had played against and alongside him for many years. Like everyone in the Challenge community, they were deeply affected by Jarrod's death and wanted to ensure his legacy would continue.

Jarrod Lyle was a lifelong ambassador for Challenge. With his passing, Jarrod's gift to Challenge was his wish to raise ongoing funds to support children and families living with cancer.

To honour Jarrod, Challenge and the PGA of Australia united to create an annual nationwide fundraising campaign that is enjoyed by the entire golfing community. With their help, and yours, we can ensure Jarrod's memory lives on.

Merchandise will be available to order through the Club until Saturday 31st August 2024.

Celebrating Our Legends

Over the past few months we have continued to highlighting the pivotal role that our long-term members play in shaping the rich history and vibrant community of our beloved club.

This week we honour Bert Picton, a cherished member who has been with us for over 40 years. Throughout the decades, Bert's commitment and passion for our club have been unwavering. Despite facing health challenges in recent years that have limited his ability to play golf, Bert continues to be an integral part of our community.

Though no longer active on the course, Bert regularly makes the journey from the Mornington Peninsula to enjoy a meal, a coffee, or simply the company of family and friends at the clubhouse. His enduring loyalty to Spring Valley is something we deeply appreciate.

If you see Bert in the Clubhouse, please take a moment to greet him, shake his hand, and express your gratitude for his many years of support.

Ladies President's Trophy Final

On a wet winter's morning, Feirn Thomson and Margaret Willcox braved the conditions to play the final of the President's Trophy, a handicapped match play event.

Feirn started strong, winning three out of the first four holes, while Margaret struggled, finding trees on the 1st and 4th holes. However, Margaret soon gathered her composure. Despite a wayward shot left off the 5th, she hit a beautiful second shot out of the rough onto the green to halve the hole. The 6th hole was also halved.

Feirn won the 7th hole after her third shot landed in the bunker, taking two shots to get out, but she made a good one-putt. Margaret hit her approach shot over the back and couldn't match Feirn's bogey. Margaret won the 8th, and both players parred the 9th hole, leaving Feirn 2 up at the turn.

On the 10th, Margaret produced a very good 4. She was short of the right-hand greenside bunker, then chipped over the green onto the 11th fairway, and bunted up to within one-putt territory, sinking the putt! However, Feirn held her cool and won the 11th.

The 12th, 13th, and 14th holes were closely contested, with Margaret taking advantage of extra shots, making it all square after the 15th hole.

Both players' tee shots hit the fairway on the 16th, but Feirn's 3-wood let her down, landing her in the bunker. With an extra shot, Margaret won the hole. On the 17th, both players were on the green for 4, but Margaret sank a beautiful downhill putt for par, while Feirn narrowly missed hers.

Victory went to Margaret, 2 and 1. Congratulations to both players on a well-fought match, and well done to Margaret on winning your first President's Trophy!
