Although there was still some terrific golf played. Lets be sure to support of Colts and Men’s Pennant teams as they play this weekend at Spring Valley taking on Sandhurst. Please see below for the Team Manager’s Reports.

Friday Women’s Pennant Report 6/04

Cheltenham vs Spring Valley

The story of this week was ‘so close yet so far’. The team battled it out all day and nearly pulled it off. We had three in the bag and three matches still in progress. Unfortunately, one finished on the 18th the next two matches headed down the 19th but just couldn’t quite seal the deal and we finished the day down 4/3.

Heather Cadwallader didn’t get off to a great start, her opponent sunk a 60-foot putt on the 2nd and she knew she was in trouble. Heather was 3 down after 6 holes but fought back to square after 11. She battled valiantly all day but unfortunately went down 2/1.

Patty Carlson has now graduated from Interclub and played in her inaugural Pennant match this week. As could be expected Patty started off a bit nervously but settled down quickly and played good solid golf. John Carlson, her caddie, made her use a club she has never used since she bought it, her 6 iron, and she pared and won the hole! Patty pulled off a crushing 6/5 win. Well done Patty, what a great start to your Pennant career.

Katie Pang started off well winning the first hole. Her opponent chipped in on the 3rd so Katie had to follow suit to halve the hole, and she nearly pulled it off. Katie did a fantastic chip that bounced on the hole but just didn’t drop. Katie’s opponent took the next few holes, so she was 3 down at the turn. Katie then rallied and got the game back to square. Katie’s nerves got the better of her on the 18th and an unfortunate chip gave her opponent the advantage she needed, and Katie finished 1 down.

Julie Sheldrake started the match with a bang. On the 2nd, a par 3, Julie popped the ball straight out of a bunker into the hole for birdie. Julie turned 2 up and then lost a bit of momentum but she rallied again to close out the match, finishing 2 up on the 18th. Well done Julie bringing in win no. 2.

Marg Willcox had a little bit of a slow start, she was two down early before winning a few holes and turning 1 up. A couple of early losses on the back nine before a series of halved holes left Marg one down heading into the 18th. Marg played the hole superbly with a fine third shot into the green to the cheers of the spectators watching. Unfortunately, Marg’s momentum stalled on the 19th and she lost the last hole. Thus, Marg’s run of consecutive victories, dating back to the beginning of the last pennant season, has sadly come to an end. Well done, Marg what a great effort.

Pam Wheelens’ caddie Terri Farrell reported that ‘Pam played very well, hitting the ball long and straight, and apart from a couple of aberrations was able to finish it off on the green’. Well done Pam delivering an excellent 5/4 win.

Carol Angland stepped into no. 1 spot for her first match of the season. Carol played a consistent and precise game all day. Her approach shots were great, and she putted well. Her opponent was a massive hitter whose shots were a bit wild, but she always managed to get out of trouble unscathed. Carol persisted all game but unfortunately lost the fight on the 18th.

Next week the team are off to take on Sandhurst the leading club this season at Kooringal. Fingers crossed we can do something special and bring home a win.

Joanne Drysdale

Women’s Pennant Report

Spring Valley V Woodlands

Let’s just say this was the loss we had to have. I think that’s what the AFL coaches say isn’t it.

With the team manager away on holidays Joanne Drysdale stepped in to send the girls on their way but unfortunately they were up against a team on their home track and it seemed to be an enormous advantage.

The very small and very fast greens had our girls perplexed but the Woodlands team seemingly didn’t miss an up and down, or a putt all day.

We had three of our girls hold on to go down the 19th but unfortunately that was a substitute hole and was being played as the 16th.

Fair to say we were out gunned on the day by our big hitting opponents. The 7-0 loss clearly the result of the Easter break coming at a bad time and breaking our momentous run in the three weeks prior.

A special mention today to Shirley Munro who went out at number 2 and gave her opponent a huge scare. It was a super effort.

Thanks to all the supporters who came out to cheer on the team today, and to Joanne Drysdale for coming down despite having personal commitments all day. The team really appreciate the support and will be back on the winners list before you know it.

Until next week

Phelan Poorly

Men’s Pennant Report

Kooringal V Spring Valley.

Another good show by all the Team today.

Unfortunately we went down 4/3 against Kooringal at their home.

Lucas at 7 got off to a rough start hitting the trees 40m off the tee. He clawed his way back into the match but ran out of holes going down 2/1.

Rob found the early going tough but kept the pressure on, eventually finishing 2/1 down.

Simon smashed a drive up the 1st then kept playing good shots and ran out a 2/1 winner.

Greg needed to get away early and didn’t waste any time hitting the front, when I joined him on 14 he was 2 up. His opponent putted well on that hole for a win, they halved 15 and 16 then Greg won 17 with par to finish 2/1 up.

Blake coming off a Super round in the Clubbies found the early going tough. He got the match back to square on 15 but lost 16 and halved 17. Going up 18 his opponent hit 3 great shots to take the match 2up.

Matt Doran had an early start at Latrobe looking after the Div 1 Colts being held there. He started well on the 1st but couldn’t keep it going all day. The match finished 3/2 in Kooringal’s favour as Matt found the Kycke hard going.

Craig was last to tee off and also wanted an early finish so he could head off with the Fam for a couple of days. He turned 6 up after 9 and should finished it on the 12th with a 5ft birdie putt, but made me push the bag another hole away from the Clubhouse to finish the match 8/6!!

Seeing we had 5 regular players out it was a great effort.

Thanks to the caddies again for your help.

We are at Home next week.

Steve Ellis

Team Manager

Colt’s Pennant Report

Kooringal V Spring Valley

Team selection this week included a new face in Max Delaney, having both Aryan and Sid unavailable put pressure on the other members and the recall of Dennis Liang to help the team out.

This week 4th place (us) were pitched against 5th place ( Kooringal ) on their home track, going to be a tough job. Playing Niv No 1, Max on his debut No 2. Dennis at No 3. Andrew No 4 and Luca at No 5. Shuffling a little hoping for a 3/2 win or better.

7.45 am tee off and thanks to the end of daylight saving we could see where the ball went!!!! Shortage of caddies saw me jump on to Luca’s bag so I will be missing much of the details this week.

All got away well and at the turn Luca was square in a tight tussle, Andrew 7 up, Dennis was 2 down, Max 3 Down and Niv 1, up so up was going to be tight. With the greens proving to be the hardest part of the game to come to terms with we were still in it. 3 putts were the norm as they were very slick, but the home team had the advantage.

Andrew closes his match out with 9/7 win and once again a great win Andrew, next to finish was Dennis finding the putting hard went down 4 & 2. Young Max thrown in at No 2 fights out a 4 &3 loss but has great potential as it is his first hit out at match play with the colts and enjoyed the experience.

Meanwhile Luca with myself on the bag is 2 down with 4 to play, when the going gets tough, the tough get going, Luca has consistently hit the fairway, generally not the right fairway but Kooringal allows you to get back on track !!! Luca digs deep and fights back to be all square on the 18th, both players feeling the pressure but an unfortunate drive puts Luca behind the eight ball and finally concedes to finish 1 down, it is all a learning experience and well done Luca.

Further back Niv is slowly grinding his opponent into submission and finishes off with a 3/2 win again – another great job thrown in at No 1. Well done Niv.

All up, our team lost 4-3 to Kooringal.

Next week we host Division 4 pennant – so hopefully we can muster a strong team to challenge one of the leaders in the division on our home ground. Sandhurst suffered their 1st defeat this week so they may be on the rebound but we will see.

Looking forward to a great support crowd at home and it will give all our members a chance to see the “New Young Guns “””

Steve Adams

Team Manager

For all pennant information and results visit Golfvic

The third round of the pennant season was played across the 6-8 April 2018, Spring Valley found the going a little tough this weekend struggling to get the results

[21,29,7

post-9487","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-club-events","category-guests-news","category-latest-news
["GET
