{"id":41261,"date":"2026-01-27T12:42:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T01:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.springvalleygolf.com.au\/cms\/?p=41261"},"modified":"2026-01-27T13:24:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T02:24:14","slug":"from-the-match-committee-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.springvalleygolf.com.au\/cms\/from-the-match-committee-2\/","title":{"rendered":"From the Match Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Happy New Year to all members from the Match Committee.\u00a0 We hope 2026 brings with it a wonderful year of golfing success and enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>A few items for your information are provided below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Syllabus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 syllabus is soon to be published in hardcover and on the club\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Given there are further course works this year (July-January) the Match committee has decided to condense the program of Major\/Board events into the first six months of the year.<\/p>\n<p>For Men, please be aware of the entry and qualifying conditions. (For example, this year the Spring Valley Cup will be limited to 32 pairs &#8211; if there are more entries, a ballot for positions in the field will be held)<\/p>\n<p>If you are new to the club and haven\u2019t played in any of our events before, please don\u2019t hesitate to put your name down. Our events cater for players at all levels &#8211; and for new players in particular, playing in an event is a great way to meet other members and become more involved in the club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pennant 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 pennant season will soon be upon us, commencing in late February.\u00a0 Our pennant squads are well advanced in their preparation and are looking forward to the challenges ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Our Pennant Managers and Captains are now locked in, except for our Youth team, which is largely dependent on the other teams to finalise its playing groups.<\/p>\n<p>Men: Manager Rob Loft; Captain Caleb Wamsteker<\/p>\n<p>Sunday Women; Manager Scott Thomson; Captain Hayley Peters<\/p>\n<p>Friday Women: Manager Jan Draper; Captain Linda Wilson<\/p>\n<p>Youth: Manager Larry Vun; Captain TBA<\/p>\n<p>We wish all teams every success.<\/p>\n<p>The dates and venues of each team\u2019s matches are listed in the syllabus, so have a look and hopefully get along to some matches to support our players.\u00a0 You never know, you may learn a thing or two from watching the best players from each of the competing clubs<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pace of play<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Members are reminded that there is a Pace of Play policy located on the Home Page under \u2018Handbook\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The simple message for all players is to keep up with the group ahead.\u00a0 From time to time, we all get into trouble on the course and can fall behind.\u00a0 In these instances, a club Staff member may approach you to remind you to regain your position and offer tips on how to do so.\u00a0 Members are reminded to be courteous to any staff member who is responsible for this duty.\u00a0 Any abuse or discourteousness toward any staff member will be considered a breach of the Club\u2019s Code of Conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The Match Committee is now considering further rules to monitor play and support groups that fall behind.\u00a0 More on this to follow.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that it is golf etiquette to call the group behind you through if you fall behind or have issues with lost balls, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing provides a sense of satisfaction and pride in our Club more than inviting a guest to play.\u00a0 While there are occasional restrictions on when members can bring a guest, the summer and holiday periods provide an excellent opportunity to do so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Match Committee encourages you to bring a guest to the Club, and we remind you that as a member, you are responsible for your guest, including their behaviour, course etiquette and dress.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we have had instances where guests have fallen short of our dress codes, which have created very awkward situations. To avoid this, please inform your guests of our standards and rules prior to arrival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dress code<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we are now in the middle of our hottest months, most male players are now wearing shorts.\u00a0 While this allows for more comfortable attire, there are a few simple rules we ask each member to follow, which you\u2019ll find in our dress code on the Club website under Handbook.\u00a0 But here are a few points to refresh your memory:<\/p>\n<p>When wearing shorts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black socks are permitted but only while wearing black shoes.<\/li>\n<li>White socks are permitted with white or black shoes.<\/li>\n<li>The sock length is limited to shorts socks just above or below the ankle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shirts must remain tucked in while on the course.<\/p>\n<p>We ask that all members follow our dress code, as failure to do so may result in access to the course being denied.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course care<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please, when you\u2019re on the course, ensure that you repair your divots, fix your pitch marks and that you are extra diligent in raking the bunkers.<\/p>\n<p>These simple measures help maintain our wonderful course and the playing conditions we all enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>John Scheffer<\/p>\n<p>Chair, Match Committee<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year to all members from the Match Committee.\u00a0 We hope 2026 brings with it a wonderful year of golfing success and enjoyment.
