A quick update from the Match Committee as there are a few items that will be of interest.<\/p>\n
As you will be aware information relating to a change in the Golf Australia platform for handicapping is due to occur during the period 29\/9 \u2013 14\/10 (details previously published on the SVGC home page).\u00a0 It was suggested by GA that during this period Clubs should play novelty events or competitions that would not normally see a change in handicap given handicapping will not be possible and no retrospective handicapping can be applied.\u00a0 The Match Committee considered these issues and decided to play the published syllabus events with the exception of Wednesday 1\/10 when an Ambrose will be played.\u00a0 On this day no access to your phone for scoring will be possible and cards will be the only vehicle for recording scores. An Ambrose with pre-prepared cards will make it easier on the GSC to finalise the scores on the day.<\/p>\n
While pennant is not due to commence until late February 2026 preparation for the season has now commenced. The first piece in the pennant puzzle is the appointment of the Managers of the various Teams.<\/p>\n
Those who have been appointed by the Board are:<\/p>\n
Additionally Jan Draper has agreed to take over the role of Friday Women\u2019s Pennant Manager.\u00a0 Whilst a formality Jan will be appointed by the Board at the September meeting.<\/p>\n
A search for a manager of the Sunday Women\u2019s team is ongoing.<\/p>\n
We thank all of the Managers for their commitment to the Club and the Teams and we wish them every success.<\/p>\n
A meeting of potential pennant players will be organised for October.<\/p>\n
Representing your Club at pennant is often the pinnacle of an individual\u2019s competitive career and one that is an honour to achieve.<\/p>\n
On Saturday 13th<\/sup> September the JD Leech final was played between Mal Sosbey and Braden Stokes.\u00a0 After two qualifying rounds of stroke and four rounds of match play both Mal and Braden were in prime form.\u00a0 With only a few strokes to be given a tough tussle was expected.\u00a0 However Braden played the better golf on the day and ran out a 7\/6 winner.\u00a0 Congratulations to Braden and commiserations to Mal.\u00a0 Thank you to Damian Wilcox for referring the final.<\/p>\n The pinnacle events on the Club\u2019s calendar are the Club Championships scheduled between Thursday 13th<\/sup> November and Sunday 30th<\/sup> November (Women) and Saturday 15th<\/sup> November and Sunday 30th<\/sup> November (Men).\u00a0 All grades are included including Club, A, B, C and Longmarkers (Men) and Club, A, B and C for Women.\u00a0 Additionally Senior Club and Junior Club Championships will be played for Men. Play will be stroke with gross scores only being used to establish qualifiers for the match play components.\u00a0 Concurrent Nett events will also be played.<\/p>\n Men\u2019s Championships are open to all 7 Day male members only and Women\u2019s Championships are open to all 6 and 7 day female members.<\/p>\n This year the Men\u2019s Longmarkers Championship will be played on Saturday 15th<\/sup> November provided there are sufficient times available on the timesheet.\u00a0 Preference will be given to the other grades in booking.<\/p>\n For new members this may be your first exposure to this event and we highly recommend your participation.<\/p>\n I wish you all the best for your golf as the weather will soon become warmer and the days longer.<\/p>\n John Scheffer<\/strong><\/p>\n Chair, Match Committee<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Dear Members A quick update from the Match Committee as there are a few items that will be of interest.
